Rethinking Cleaning: a smarter sustainable system in a better bottle.

Replenish Cleaning System 

Born from an idea company founder Jason Foster had while ironing more than four years ago, Replenish came to Radius with the idea of an environmentally friendly, highly concentrated all purpose cleaner delivered in a sustainable spray bottle system design. The unique characteristic of the Replenish product is in the system approach; the entire package and delivery system was conceived, designed and realized as a reusable and recyclable system intended to reduce the burden on the planet

Radius’ focus on the user experience and passion for sustainability combined with our breadth of product development knowledge and manufacturing launch experience, we drove an intense collaboration between a number of contributors necessary for the success of this product.  These include valve and spray developers, materials suppliers, primary manufacturers, and chemists/converters. 

The ultimate result is a product that uses 90 percent less plastic and produced 90 percent less oil and carbon dioxide emissions compared to using other cleaners over the course of a year. By shipping empty bottles with a concentrate pod attached, truckloads are lighter. And since the idea is for consumers to reuse one bottle over and over while buying only pods, the smaller physical footprint of the pods means fewer trucks on the road; approximately (1) for the (15) that would be required with traditional cleaners.

Manufacturing the delivery system of recyclable materials is only a portion of the battle toward reducing environmental impact of a company’s  products. Users must have obstacles to recycling removed; which is to say that the system must be easy to use and recycle, AND have minimal end of life transactions. The materials must be not only receycleable, but they must be in demand by recyclers/reusers. 

The Replenish system has been designed in PET, the most sought after material by recyclers.  The pods can be recycled by simply throwing in a recycling container and at EOL of the delivery system, it too can be dropped in a recycling container with no other interaction required.

Through its life, the Replenish Cleaning System uses less material for a longer period; the solutions are biodegradable and safe for humans and pets, and there is demand for the materials for a second life.   The Replenish Reusable Bottle System was recognized with a 2011 Bronze Edison Award in the Energy & Sustainability, Packaging category. Radius worked intimately with the system visionary, Replenish CEO Jason Foster, in engineering and delivering the system.
